Q & A with Matt K! Flow Formula Foul-Up

In today’s episode of “Q & A with Matt K!”, we’re diving into an interesting question from Edgard Batista in the Salesforce Trailblazer Community. Edgard ran into an issue where a formula field is behaving inconsistently across different screens in a Salesforce Flow.
“Formula field (number) displaying the USD symbol in the flow’s data table. I have a formula field (number) to display the value of another number field, but for some reason, in one screen, the data table shows it with a USD symbol in front, while in the same flow, on another screen, it shows without the USD but aligned to the left as if it were a text. Has anyone else experienced this?”
… After taking a closer look at the situation, here’s what we found:
It turns out that the root of the issue is probably due to there being two different fields in play, both possibly labeled as “Outstanding Amount.” One of these fields is a currency field, while the other is likely a text field that’s formatted to display the number. This leads to the inconsistent behavior where one screen shows the number with a USD symbol (because it’s using the currency field), and the other screen aligns it to the left like text.
The fix here involves checking the properties of the data tables being used in the flow. You’ll want to confirm that each data table is referencing the correct field—whether it’s the currency field or the text field—based on how you want the number to display in the flow.
